Geothermal Drilling |
There are many ways to make money in the drilling business, geothermal, water well and exploration are just a few . Water is the most sought after mineral in the world, even more so than oil for survival. Water is not going out of style ,or going to be replaced, it's still needed just as bad even in a slow economy. There's no substitute for water, we must have it to live and survive. Every second someone is born ,the need for more fresh water just increased.
The population realizes this too, and this is why more and more people want their own personal water well on their own property. A Well water is much safer than city water. Why?
City water in most cases comes from large Wells also, but city water systems have miles and miles of water lines full of old stale water just setting , making it old and stagnate and in need of more and more chlorine.
Insufficient amounts of chlorine can make your city water unsafe. How many miles of streets are in your city, imagine water lines running as many miles or more than your city streets. These water lines are large and hold large volumes of water. This water is old and stagnant sometimes being pumped from the well many weeks before you ever use it.
This is why you'll see city workers opening fire hydrants to flush rust and debris and sediment from the water lines. This is also why massive amounts of chlorine must be added so that even weeks later the chlorine can still kill bacteria.
They say chlorine is safe, but is it illegal to haul chlorine without special hazard endorsements and permits. You can even be charged with a terrorist crime transporting chlorine without these permits and endorsements.
For something that we where told that is so safe, why is it in our water.
Also city water systems in the small towns are so old and out of date, some water lines are so old they were made when water pipe was cast iron pipe and lead connections were used to seal them. The People who are in charge of putting the chlorine in these municipal and city water district water supplies work for minimum wage in most cases. Minimum wage workers equals, less than sharp and alert employees.
Minimum wage workers in many places are illegal aliens who cannot even read and write properly. You say, if they can't read and write, there is no way they can get certified as a water operator. Then may I ask how 13 million illegal aliens got drivers licenses, and pass the drivers test. With political correctness ruling our society, you'll be surprised at who's in charge your will drinking water.
As dangerous as chlorine is, it is amazing at who's in charge of the safety of our water supply Nationwide. This is why more and more people want their own private safe water well. Since you only use small portions of water at a time, the water well only pumps what you need. Water that is still in the ground is pure clean and bacteria free, Only after water is pumped out and sits in large holding tanks or water lines, does it begin to need chlorinated to kill the bacteria.
Large reservoirs and tanks that hold massive amounts of water will need chlorinated to keep clean. This is why a standard home use water well is so good. Water is clean and fresh when in the ground, and is only pumped out as you need it.
Water is very precious even in the United States of America. Remember before buying property, check your state's county, city and state water rights. Some states like Colorado even own the rainwater that falls from the sky. Legally in Colorado you cannot catch rainwater without paying for a permit and in getting it OK' d first. The state of Colorado owns all the water rights, and only grants you water rights after you pay for permits that can be revoked or taken away whenever they want.
Most states are not this strict. California and Colorado seemed to be the worse. I've heard people say, I just don't trust the drinking water, but I do feel safe drinking certified city water. This is like saying I don't trust eating in my own kitchen, but I do trust eating at a truck stop greasy spoon restaurant with halfway house employees.
95% of all water Wells are safe. If you ever had a problem with a water well being clean, it would be because the well is located near a cattle feedlot or a toxic waste dump or some other undesirable water well location.
The natural sand formations have natural good and beneficial bacteria and microscopic organisms that naturally clean even the rankest bacteria and waterborne disease. Just 6 inches of sand will filter better than $300 water filter. The United States is blessed. People here don't die of water diseases like Africa and South America.
If you do want a check your water Wells for how clean the water is you can take a sample to your local county agent for testing at the local college. The biggest problem was testing your water is most people do not do it correctly or use a proper or clean container. I've seen people use old jelly jars coke bottles and other poor choices to collect water.
If you do test you water makes your container is clean and preferably made of glass, and free from any cleaners or bleach. Some colleges and county agencies will supply you with a container for your test water at a small fee. When you test your water it may have trace minerals. The majority of minerals are nontoxic it will not hurt you, but when you read the report some of the large words may alarm you.
How deep to drill?
Also remember when drilling a well or having a well drilled that you do not go to deep. Most drilling contractors charge by the foot. This is why, if their rig will go 1000 feet they find water at 950 feet. A deeper well is not always a better well. The shallower water is sweeter and less mineral content. The deeper you drill the harder the water gets, because the water has to pass over many mineral formations to get there.
Do not get caught up with bragging rights. Just because your neighbors got a 300 well, don't get a 400 feet well thinking it's better.
Just drilling deep well does not mean you get more water.
The driller can pass the water up, this is why drilling yourself and learning how to log the well will let you know where you're at and where you're going.
standard well or irrigation well
Do you need a irrigation well for massive amounts of water and massive amounts of flow. Or do you just need a simple home use well with less water usage, but you do not one any sediment or sand in your water. The irrigation well in the home use well or two different things. The irrigation well is only thinking about massive amounts of water, this is one large slot screen or extra large slides screen is used. Because everything is about how much water you can get out. This is one irrigation well would not be suitable for home drinking water or household plumbing.
A home well is usually 2 to 4 inch casing depending on the area of the United States you're in. 2 inch wells are used in the south for water tables for 200 feet are less. 4 inch Wells or for 200 foot are deeper, or just for people who would like a bigger casing and more water output well.
Portable water well drilling rigs and some of the newest advanced technology in drilling today.
Large truck rigs have there place, but With high fuel cost, shipping cost and labor cost sky rocketing the
advanced technology smaller portable drilling rigs have a great roll today. Drillcat can locate you the right
portable rig.
Larger truck rig ( to own cost) is very high. Any larger truck rig is under DOT rules, which means if you own a
large truck rig, not just anyone can drive it.
Driver must have DOT Medical Examination / Certification Card
Depending on state, minuim financial responsibility limits of up to least $5,000,000.
Drivers must pass drug test.
And the list goes on, and on.
Insurance is high.
Smaller portable drilling rigs on smaller trucks under GVW requirements or portable water well trailer mounted
rig save you 1000s this day and time.
The Larger truck rig, just having a flat can cost you 450.00 . The smaller portable rigs can be towed by a 3/4
to 1 ton truck and tires prices start at 59.00 each. Also if it is a trailer mounted portable rig, then the vehicle that
is towing it's insurance in most cases covers the Trailer it is towing . Smaller portable rigs are not for everyone,
but definitely have there place.
Many places needing water wells or geothermal drilling, already have homes and high - dollar landscapes. These
smaller rigs can be more maneuverable in tight places, plus leave no major impact on the landscape or sensitive
eco areas. Safety is always a concern
. With longer pipe, like on large truck rigs, danger is always present. The portable drilling rigs with 10ft and 15ft
drill pipe is not only easier to handle, but much more safe to use. Longer 30ft drill pipe is like a falling tree, when
dropped, and can injure people even who are far away.
Fuel use is now a issue with the larger truck drilling rigs. Large truck rigs using 50 to 100 gallons per day. 100
gallons at 3.00 per gallon = ( 300.00 ) , plus day wages of drillers at 250.00 per day ( x TIMES 3 MEN) . It
can easily cost 2k to 3k per week over head cost to run larger truck rigs, and thats without any break downs
or surprises. This is why new technology Drillcat Portable drilling rigs are in higher demand. There are
limitations on portable rigs, if your drilling over 1000ft you will still need larger more powerful equipment. But
for the 1000s of places with water at 500ft or less, the new technology portable drilling rig has its place in
history.
Parts and repair, on the portable drilling rigs, can be done with standard tools and minuim mechanic skills. Parts
are smaller, and do not need cranes to remove or replace.
Less moving parts. Most truck rigs have multiple gear boxes which take massive diesel horse power to turn.
Some older truck rigs are like working on a drag line, with so many winches, multiple gear boxes and tall
derrick towers.
Training
Training on a truck rig is hard. Hoist winches with free fall, and brakes are touchy and men must be fully trained
to drill with these machines.
Smaller hydraulic rigs have hydraulic levers, so if you let go of a hydraulic lever everything stops ,your still safe,
and nothing falls, like the free fall winch with 15k lbs of weight of drill pipe on the end.
