The Easy Wood DIY hot water heater.
This unit is great for Missionary or backwoods remote cabin, lodge or
camp house, a cheap wood burning water heater.
Any used or new gas hot water heater will work.
List you will need to build.
1 gas water heater/ new or used.
Water heater you use must be a gas unit with center stack vent.
Remove bottom of gas water heater and remove all old gas lines and parts.
1 used truck rim. (dayton rim) or some people call them spoke rims. The
dayton rims are for 10-20 tires. Most tire shops will have these laying
around.
These truck rims have no bolt pattern, and are hollow in middle.
Cut side door to feed wood into it with. We used barn style hinge.
Cut adapter plate out of 1/4" or 3/8" steel. The adapter plate will be
basically a large washer, that will fit the bottom of gas water heater opening
to truck rim opening.
Once this rim is welded on, your done, except for the door for loading
wood.
We left the bottom open and set it on brick base.
We used one of these for 3 years. You MUST USE THIS OUT DOORS
OR INSTALL IN BARN. NOt FOR INDOOR USE.
Will make more hot water than you can imagine. Once water is hot and
wood is burning, you have enough water to take 6 long showers in a row,
and still scald a pig with whats left. Great camp site hot water, no propane
to buy or run out.
If you get fire too hot, the water heater pop off valve will let off relief hot
water, which will let cold water in..
This set up is cheap to use. . Works great in remoter cabins, out door
barns where hot water is needed, or overseas missionary's in remote
villages.
Once water is hot, it will stay hot for 24 to 36 hours depending on out side
temps .For one shower, just a very small fire is needed with small amount
of wood.
