Over complicated Drilling Rigs or over engineered equipment may work great in many developed country, but Africa does not
have the parts network other country have and enjoy.
When buying drilling equipment, beware of over complicated or over Engineered drilling equipment. Simple basic equipment not
only is easy to operate with less skill require to operate, but repair and service is easier too. Larger complicated heavy truck rigs
require highly trained operators to run, and shipping rates are 1/2 the cost of the rig. One more tip, larger truck rigs are not made for off
road use, in Africa, the roads are rough. How well does the rig move when you get a 40k lb rig driving on a mud or dirt road. Lighter
and more portable equipment is not only cheaper to ship, but can be transported from job to job easier. Portable drilling rigs can be
towed with ATV, small tractors, Small pickup trucks and 4x4 jeeps or land rovers.
Africa Drilling requires DTH drilling in Hard formation areas. The DTH is the fastest way in the world to drill hard rock. Any
water well drilling rig, drilling hard rock with a DTH must have a swivel designed for high psi ratings. Make sure the Equipment you
purchase has a weight rating on the swivel and also a PSI rating for air drilling.
DTH hammer drilling is fast drilling, but does wear your drilling rig out in the long run. Cushion or Shock Subs adapters save your
swivel and drill pipe from abuse from the DTH fast hammer action.
If you use a portable Portable Trailer mounted Drilling rig In Africa, make sure the Axle set up is HUS Mounted. This will give
you added clearance for rough roads and off road terrain.
Air drilling in areas where it is hard to haul water makes things easier.
Regular mud rotary drilling, you must have 300 to 900 gallons of water for the mud pit to start drilling, but with air drilling no water is
needed. You will need a large CFM air compressor though. Many areas in Africa, to haul water is a slow and big job, with not vary
many good roads to travel on.
One year parts kits.
Having a one year parts kit for every drilling rig or support equipment is a must. This saves you money, because if you need a over night
UPS part, just the over night UPS rate for a letter is 250.00 us dollars. So heavy parts would cost more to ship than the parts kits
themselves.
Do a little extra leg work before shipping, this will save you weeks of waiting and plus save you on emergency shipping rates later.
Air Compressors for DTH rock drilling.
The deeper and larger the bore hole is the more CFM's you will need. The good news is larger CFM air compressors are sometimes
cheaper than the smaller ones. It is always better to get a larger CFM air compressor than too small. If you add a foam injection pump,
this will help you get by with less CFM's also.
On DTH drilling some drillers use a automatic oil Injection pump to lube the DTH. The poor mans way is just pour a little oil in pipe
every connection, just do not forget. If your drillers are smart and alert, the poor mans way works. But if you have less alert people
drilling, add the auto oiler and save on buying a 3k hammer twice a week.
Where the DTH does not work.
The DTH is basically a mini Jack hammer. It screws on the drill pipe in place of the drill bit. Just like a jack hammer it works great on
hard surfaces like cement or rock, but in mud or soft formations is useless. In places where you have thin rock layers you may choose
to used rock bits and not the DTH. The DTH works best in all rock or hard formations. In soft formations you may have to remove
and replace with rotary mud bits.
Saving on Duties and Tariffs.
In some Africa nations the duty and tariffs can be up to 100% of the value of the goods. This needs to be known before shipping.

Overseas generators for Africa and remote regions.
The best generator gensets are the older diesel gensets. New high tech gensets have on board computers and hard to find circuit
boards, so repair of these type gensets oversea is a job. The older style generators are simple, and a simple volt meter can trouble
shoot and find power problems or glitches.
Also new generators even if they have name brand diesel engines like lister, perkins and even cummins, the generator end on 90% of
new generators is made in CHINA. The CHINA generators are junk and a waste of money. They use cheap smaller gauge copper
wire and the wire insulation cracks and dry rots right away.
The Older USA made generator gensets used more copper and better copper windings. This design makes the power more steady
and creates less heat also. With less heat, this means less parts to fail.
Also the older diesel genset diesel engines will run on many types and grades of diesel, used oil, veggie oil and bio diesel. New
computer controlled gensets have computers and emission sensors and will not let engines run right on low grade overseas fuels.
Not running right will burn more fuel, and engine can run higher operating temps.

even in high altitude, they have near full power., where non turbo, non supercharger engine loose 24% power.
